A reef-fringed stretch of the south coast that was Sri Lanka’s original surf town and still holds one of its most consistent breaks alongside a coral sanctuary just offshore that draws snorkellers to its resident hawksbill turtles. The beach strip here is busier and more built-up than Tangalle or Unawatuna, with a dense run of guesthouses, dive shops and beach cafes that gives it a livelier, more sociable feel. It works well as a standalone add-on for travellers who want a short, snorkelling-focused coastal stop rather than a full multi-night resort finish. We treat it as an optional extension destination rather than a fixed stop on any of our nine core itineraries.
