A quieter beach town on the road into Bentota, best known for its turtle hatchery, where volunteers help incubate and release eggs from several endangered species. It rarely functions as a destination in its own right within our itineraries, appearing instead as a worthwhile en route stop for travellers already heading toward the Bentota resort belt. The hatchery visit is brief but genuinely engaging for children and its small beach hotels make for a pleasant, low-key overnight if a longer stop is ever needed. It sits quietly in the shadow of its more developed neighbour and that’s largely the appeal.
