A wide, gentle bay on the south coast known for one of Sri Lanka’s most forgiving beginner surf breaks and a relaxed, creative boutique scene that has grown up around it. The bay’s shallow, sheltered swell makes it a natural extension for travellers who want to add a surf lesson or two onto the end of a longer itinerary without needing prior experience. Its boutique hotels and independent cafes give it a noticeably different character from the resort belts further along the coast, more small-scale and design-led than all-inclusive. We recommend it as an optional coastal extension for travellers on any collection who have an extra two or three nights to spend.
